Psychic Force

If fighting is an essential part of human history, and is the driving power behind human progress...
Then you could say that we represent humanity itself...

Burn. Arrgh! This is the cel I wanted most out of this recent batch, and it's the ONLY one that did not come with any sketches! That makes it one of only three Psychic Force cels I own without matching sketches. (*sigh*) Even if I'd known that in advance, it wouldn't have stopped me from buying the cel... Here, Burn is angry at himself that he couldn't protect Keith from being recaptured, and is vowing to find him again. (Original production background.)

Sonia. This is now my *third* cel from this sequence. No, I don't just really like the sequence... I bought one, then another because I wanted to frame one of the two, and this third I bought because I like the background. You can tell this background used to be very long vertically and was cut into pieces. I have seen at least three cels from this sequence with different pieces of the background and would love to know how long it measured before it was cut up! (Trimmed original production background.) Keith. You won't see this cel like this on the screen. This is Keith appearing to Emilio as a vision, and it's shown as transparent. There actually is a background, visible in the video, that you can't see here. There is also black paint around Keith on a different cel layer. This layer was only lightly stuck, lightly enough that I was able to carefully make it unstuck. I need to review the video to see how this layer was used, because I don't remember the black... (Original production background. Really! It's there!)

Psychiccer children. Nameless extras! I have made it a mini-quest of mine to try to find Psychic Force cels of the nameless psychiccers from the show. This one was available for a long while, but priced plenty high enough that I knew I could wait out a sale. Although several other collectors have taken some interest in the show, I think I'm the only one who actively wants to find the nameless extras. (Production lazer background.) Burn. This cel has to be from somewhere around when Burn finds the child that gets killed by Gates. The background fits that scene, but I can't immediately place where this cel belongs. It's a very nice cel, but I'm still not exactly sure what spoke to me so strongly about it. However, it was inexpensive enough that I indulged myself. There was little competition for this and the others being sold with it. (Original production background.)

Keith and Burn. As simple as this cel looks, this was another that I just really wanted. I have a few backgrounded cels from this scene, but this one is different from the others because, despite all the glass windows in the scene, this is the only one that shows a reflection. The reflection is surprisingly realistic looking and I was wondering how they did it. It is a normal painted cel layer that is behind a number of other layers. Like my other backgrounded cels from this scene, this is a book cel and, from bottom to top, it's set up as follows: Lazer background layer, cel layer of reflection, cel layer of airbrushed shine off windows, watercolor background layer of wall, cel layer of Keith facing the window, cel layer of Burn's arm. The resulting image is deceptively simple, but was very complicated to make! (Original production background.)

Burn's mom and Keith. Here's one that's both old AND new at the same time! I've had the layer of Burn's mom for a long time. Just a little bit ago, the Keith layer went up for sale! I still can't believe I actually had to outbid someone else for such a low-grade cel of Keith, but I really wanted to have one of the Keith layers to match this cel. Before I get jokes about it, he is NOT staring at her chest... He is looking at Burn past her shoulder. ^_^  The scan shows how the layers look lined up as they would have been for filming. In my book, however, I skew the Keith layer to the right so that both layers can been seen well. This is my second favorite cel of Burn's mom, who is my favorite minor character from the OVA.

Burn. WHEE!! I finally have a background of the bar! The bartender is one of my favorite nameless extra characters. Don't ask why, because I don't know either. Unfortunately, this isn't one of the backgrounds that goes with any of my cels of the bartender. Still, I was tickled to get this as a freebie. On the screen, this cel is seen through the slowly turning blades of a fan on the ceiling. I don't know if the fan was a special effect, or a missing layer. (Original production background.) Keith and Burn. Another cel of the boys on Burn's motorcycle. This one is panned back further than my current favorite from this scene, but still holds a lot of detail, and is also oversized. Like with the other, there is some nice airbrushing for the headlight that can't be seen well against the white of my scanner lid. It would be nice to have the background to go with one of these cels. If it's still out there to be found, it would be long, like the background with Sonia, and probably cut up.

Wong. I've slowed up on Psychic Force cels, not because I've lost any interest in the show, but because it's no longer easy for me to still find cels from scenes for which I don't have another cel from the same scene... There have been a couple Anime World Star updates for which I could say "already have one of those" about every cel in the update. But here's a new one! I'm also pleased to have another cel of Wong painted in normal tones, since many of my nicest cels of him are either in shadow tones, or are too close up enough to show his outfit. Thank you, Haruna! ^_^
