Kaze Makase Tsukikage Ran

Sakura: M'am, were you talking to your stomach just now?
Ran: It made some undignified sound, so I scolded it a little.

Ran. One of my all time favorite scenes in Tsukikage Ran is right at the very beginning. Here Ran is scolding the three Bonsai Clan Brothers for waking her up during her nap on a beautiful, balmy, relaxing day. In my always so humble opinion, Ran very much has her priorities in order. People today spend far too much time running around like chickens with their heads cut off... and are made to feel guilty if they're NOT doing so. One interesting thing about this cel is that the mouth only is a separate layer which doesn't match this cel. Another cel from this sequence with the matching mouth was put up for sale after this one, but I liked the main image of Ran on this cel a lot more. I might still consider another with the matching mouth in the future.

Ran and...? I still need to figure out who Ran is fighting here. It would be a lot easier if he(?) were looking forward, but such is life. Even the only other Tsukikage Ran fan I know doesn't know who this is without going to the video. But the composition of the cel is fantastic, even if I can't identify both parties. Especially perfect is the way Ran's face is framed by the swords. (Non-matching production background from epsiode three.)		Ran and Miao. When I saw this, I put the auction right in my watchlist. I've wanted a cel of Ran (at least) in the outfit she wore when working off her restaurant bill to Ohatu's father. To find one of her and Miao both, with the matching background, made this more of a gem to me than it might first appear. Although not fully in character, their expressions were another point that sold me on this cel. (Original production background.)

Miao and Mai. This comes from an incredible scene in it's episode, but it's one that I can't describe without severe spoilers. Suffice to say, as soon as I saw this updated to it's owner's gallery, I did something I've done only twice in the past... I sent an unsolicited offer for it. Thankfully, the owner wasn't angry and, much to my joy, accepted! So few good cels with Mai have shown up, I can hardly believe I have one so poignant to the episode.

Ran. Although there are a number of places that I suspect I might find this, I'm not sure where this cel is from in the series. It is a very nice cel of Ran and I like her determined expression. The cel is oversized, and there is actually a bit more of the sword outlined below were I cropped the scan, but it is not painted. With the large amount of blank acetate on the top and bottom, the cel is at least one and a half the height needed. Maybe when I find it's scene, I'll learn why. (Lazercopy background, unsure if matching.)

Miao (and top of Mamoutaro's head). Yet another closeup in my collection. It's amazing how many have started to creep in lately. This one is all about the expression, as Miao fights for Mamoutaro's safety. It's one of very few serious moments in the series for Miao, when she proves she's made of more than she lets show on a regular basis.		Miao. This came as a second to another of my Tsukikage Ran cels and I just find the look on the guy's face, plus all the little scratches, amusing. Another thing I like about this cel is Miao's pose. Tsukikage Ran's fight scenes look fantastic on the screen, but often not great on a frame by frame basis. Simple as it is, this one is a nice fight scene frame!

Ran. As mentioned above, the cels from the fight scenes are often disappointing. However, this is the *single best* fight scene cel of Ran I have ever seen! The scan makes it look standard sized, but it's actually oversized. I need to double check the video, but I believe Ran is fighting her teacher in this cel. She's about to free him of a burden he's been carrying...		Ran. Attaching her sword to her side, Ran leaves Miao and the baby Miao found at an inn while she goes out to search for the baby's real parents. She has no idea that she'll be needing that sword to complete her task. I do have many cels from the third episode. For reasons unknown to me, it seems an unusual percentage of the cels for sale are from this episode.

Ran. Episode as yet unidentified, this cel came as part of a lot of Tsukikage Ran cels. Before I received the cels, I considered selling this one to make back part of the cost of the lot. But when I saw it, I knew I'd be keeping it. Plain as it looks in a scan, it's in wonderful condition and there is a lot of detail in the eyes.		Ran and Miao. So good at getting in trouble, here Miao has wound up in the middle of an illegal transaction. Despite her disguise, the police are about to catch up with her shortly. In the meantime she clings to Ran for help. Ran says she won't help, but she inevitably will... (Original production background.)
