Q. Can I look at auctions and search for things without a Yahoo Japan ID?
A. Yes! You can look at anything you want. The only things for which you need an ID are to bid, to leave a question for a seller, or to see a closed auction. You also need an ID to browse the adult auctions.
Q. Will my Yahoo US ID work on Yahoo Japan?
A. No.
Q. How do I get an ID on Yahoo Japan?
A. I'm not going to answer that here for two reasons. . . First, it is too involved for the purposes of this page. (It took me over two hours of slogging through Yahoo Japan with translation software to get mine.) Second, the process has changed since I aquired my ID. Anything I wrote about the old process would be obsolete. However, if you are good enough to get most of the way but just need a little help - write me and I'll see what I can do. ^_^ Other than that, Anime Chaos Deputy can arrange for personal Yahoo Japan IDs, and Celga offers "Celga Gold" accounts which allow bidders to have their own IDs. I don't have either of these types accounts for myself, I only know they exist, so please see the respecitve sites for further information and restrictions.
Q. How can you search closed auctions on Yahoo Japan?
A. You CAN'T. If you have a link to an auction that is closed, that link will still connect to an active "closed auction" page, but there is no way to search closed listings in the manner that you can on Ebay.
Q. How can I see closed auctions? / How can I see auction results?
A. You can only see closed auctions if you have both the link to the auction (or the auction number) AND a Yahoo Japan ID. Due to increased irritation caused by numerous "what did this auction end at" posts, please DO NOT post to Yann's Anime Cel Forum to ask someone to look at the closed auction for you. If you need to see a closed auction and you do not have an ID, simply e-mail the link to me. I will look and report back to you with who won the auction and the amount of the final bid. Another option is to go to Rinkya where they have a special form that will allow people without IDs to view closed auctions. (It's an awesome little setup! ^_^) There is no fee to do this - either to go to Rinkya, or to ask me.
Q. How can I directly contact a Yahoo Japan seller or bidder? / How can I get the e-mail of a Yahoo Japan seller or bidder?
A. You CAN'T. There is no way to get the e-mail address of anyone else who has a Yahoo Japan ID unless they send it to you or you are involved as a primary party in a completed auction with them (either as a seller or bidder). At times, I have put my e-mail address in the Q&A section with a request for the seller to write to me. Usually they will. Sometimes they won't. But if you really have to write personally to a seller, it's worth a try.
Q. Where can I find someone who will bid for me on an auction on Yahoo Japan?
A. This has been covered REPEATEDLY on Yann's Anime Cel Forum. I suggest you go there and use the search engine to look up "deputy services". One common deputy service to use is Celga. I will make no comments or claims about their reliability or the services offered, I will say only that they will bid for you on Yahoo Japan for a fee. Anime Chaos also has a deputy service (similar to Rinkya's) which allows people to bid for themselves "realtime"! I've repeatedly used Anime Chaos's service myself and am very pleased with it. But I make no attempt to speak for any these deputies, so please refer to their respective pages for more information on their services.
Q. Will *YOU* bid for me on an auction on Yahoo Japan?
A. I'm putting this here since I'm getting more and more inquiries about it. If a seller ships internationally, I do occasionally bid for other people with my own ID and handle the auctions for them... These people are usually close friends, or people to whom I owe favors. But I am NOT an official deputy service and have no intention of becoming one. However... If you're really in a bind with something you *MUST* have and no one to bid for you, it can't hurt to throw yourself on my e-doorstep. Another person who has helped others in the past is Deputy M. Although the site is currently closed for orders, I leave it's link here for reference.
Q. Is there someone who can translate for me what an item description says?
A. If you can't read an item description, your best bet is to find someone you know who speaks Japanese. Barring that, I have some very good translation software. Send me the link and I will do my best to tell you what it says. You can also visit Babel Fish, which has gotten a *little* better since it's first introduction onto the web. (But be aware that free online translators are generally NOT very good. I don't advocate trying to complete a transaction with a seller using only Babel Fish.) I can also give out "cut and paste" questions in kanji for people who need them and who have Japanese text support on their computers. I don't ask anything in exchange for doing that except to ask that people remember I am using a mechanical translator which is not perfect - I do NOT speak Japanese at any level. ^_^;;
Q. Is there a public forum where I can ask questions about Yahoo Japan?
A.Yes! A public forum for quesitons about Yahoo Japan was set up by Nick, who runs Anime Chaos. His site can be found HERE.
